Fresh Vegetable Soup

What’s better on a cold winter’s day than homemade soup?  We gathered together to chop and stir up a wonderful fresh vegetable soup!  Luckily, we had Pete Remme show up for our cooking group, with his own utensils in hand!  He had the honor of chopping up our head of cabbage – and he did a great job too!  Fresh carrots, onion, red potatoes, green beans, , home canned tomatoes & garlic all went into our soup.  But, our “special” ingredient that made our soup so delicious, was a bottle of dark German beer!  Everyone enjoyed eating a  bowl of our “creation” and left with another bowl to take home for later!  And as you all know, the next day it will be even betterMmmmmmmmm  good!!

Home Made Vegtable Soup

With a basketful of fresh vegetables from Shari Eckstrom’s garden, one of our resident’s daughters, we couldn’t go wrong with our pot of vegetable soup! And Shari’s mother, Bea Kuhl, was a bit surprised when our activities coordinator, Lo…
ra, said she wasn’t going to use a recipe! The ladies chopped & chatted as they prepared the vegetables for the soup – zucchini, crookneck squash, green beans, wax beans, onions, potatoes, tomatoes & some fresh basil & parsley to top it off with garden fresh flavor! We used vegetable bouillon, some dried Italian herbs & minced garlic. And let’s not forget, a glass of white wine! As the soup simmered we had a great time doing a giant crossword puzzle together. It was quite amusing to see all the ‘visitors” at the door wishing to try out our soup! That’s one way to get the men in the craft room!! It turned out simply delicious – without a recipe!

Potatoe Necklace Craft

The ladies had a ball making these potato necklaces.  They peeled and cut up potatoes, let them dry for a couple days, painted them and then strung them with other beads.  They all turned out so nice.
