Hello Easter, by Lora Keeney, Activities Coordinator

Hello April!!

April’s upon us, though it looks like May, perhaps it’s nature’s joke on us for April Fools’ Day!

With Easter coming very soon, we need to perk up our dining room!

I’m calling all crafters once again, to come together with artistic pen. Let imaginations roll & turn something plain into a magical something with spring color flame!

Our crafters’ work is not nearly done, for we’re making Easter baskets for each & everyone!  These cute little baskets will be filled with Easter treats & you’ll probably see the prints left behind of rabbit feet!

We’re making Easter angels to add to our collection.  These lavender works of art will just scream out spring perfection!

“Umbrella Fun” is another time for crafters to not miss out on! Splashes of color & plenty of trim make this project an F-U-N, fun one!

It’s time for our “treasure hunt”- be sure to sign up!  At Salvation Army we’ll see what we find, then we’ll share some good food –don’t miss out, it’s sublime!

“The Levee Singers” will be here with their joyful fun filled spirits!  They’ll lift you up with their voices & smiles – you will definitely want to hear it!

A spring bouquet is next on our crafters’ list to do.  It sounds so very simple but this craft may challenge you!  But crafters love a challenge & it will stretch your imagination , to craft your flowers, no two alike & be proud of your creations!

Our Kmart trip will help you out with things you don’t find at our store. And the Chinese Buffet will make your day – who could ask for more?

Happy Hour will come alive with the “ Down Home” Bluegrass Band! Listen to the music, join the fun and give the band a hand!

Arm Chair travels to South Africa will be well worth your viewing.  The pictures will amaze you with their color & beauty & you’ll find some pictures quite amusing!

May Day Baskets is a great little craft that anyone can get in on!  They’re easy to make – even if you shake!  And they’ll bring back memories from eons!!

Randy Rolloff is back – the man with the hats & the music just pours right out of him!  With a smile on your face you’ll leave the place & with a song in your heart you’ll be singin’!

To the bluffs of Red Wing our van will go, with doughnuts & coffee –  “Hi Ho – Hi Ho”! Bring your binoculars, you don’t know what you’ll see – eagles, flowers or the Mississippi Queen!

So let’s enjoy April with it’s clean spring air & join all the activities without even a care!

Mardi Gra Party

Mardi Gra was a big hit here at Twin Rivers.  The residents loved the lunch, deep fried shrimp, dirty rice, asparagus and Mardi Gra cupcakes.  The party was fun also with masks and crowns.  We played a game to win beaded necklaces.  Fun was had by all!   Hats off to the leader of the pack “Lora Keeney” activity Coordinator.  She made the party so much fun!!!

Carnation Angel Craft

Our residents enjoyed making Carnation angels.  The craft was such a hit that they plan on making a valentine, St. Patrick’s Day and a Easter one with all the appropriate colors for the month!  Great job Lora!

Craft, Pine Cone Wreaths

The residents enjoyed making their Pine Cone Wreaths this week.  One of the many Christmas crafts on the calendar!

Visiting Angels

So many of our residents will move or rehab at Angels Care Center here in Cannon Falls.  Our Friends here at Twin Rivers miss them so they started a group called visiting Angels.  They all load up on the bus and go visit those friends they have missed!  It was a great time with a lot of hugs, laughter, and where friendships were rekindled.

Ahoy Maitees! Twin Rivers Rides the “Pearl of the Lake”

“All were aboard” for a beautiful afternoon on the “Pearl of the Lake” Mississippi boat ride this past Saturday. With absolutely perfect weather, we headed to Lake City, Mn. , first stopping at a near by park to eat our picnic lunch. After everyone finished eating, we spent a little time at a charming little cafe and gift shop called “Chickadee” on main street, and then headed to our destination! It was a truly picturesque moment as we boarded the “Pearl of the Lake”, a beautiful, antique cruise boat that runs only by it’s old fashioned paddle wheel propellars. The Captain and crew were more then hospitable, willing to do whatever it took to make our ride an enjoyable one. Memories of being near the ocean or lake were shared, as well as stories of being in the Navy. It seemed to me that the fresh air and beautiful scenery revealed a little bit more youth in my residents that they weren’t aware they still had. Click below for a virtual tour of our trip!
