Saturday, September the 21st, was a very special day for Twin Rivers residents, staff, & family. After raising over $1700 through our bake sale & selling of “Forget Me Not” flower vases & cards made by our memory care residents, “Team Twin Rivers” pledged this money to The Alzheimer’s Association & participated in the” Walk for Alzheimers” at Coleville Park in Red Wing, MN. Blue ribbons, red ribbons & white, our crafters were pleasantly surprised to find out they had so much talent at the Cannon Valley Fair! Entered in the senior division, our crafters hard work paid off! The dining room was then decorated with all their special creations & ribbons for all the residents to appreciate! The whole fair event made the 4th of July that much more fun! Our Activity Coordinator is already thinking about what crafts to create to bring to next year’s fair!
This month was filled with fun activities and great entertainment. Some highlights of this month are the Shamrocks and rainbows they made for the dining room decorations to homemade beef stew and men’s woodworking group. Then came Easter and the dining room was filled with little chicks and Easter Bunnies with grass to making fuzzy bunnies and little bunny and duckling baskets! It was a fun filled month!
“That sure brings back memories”…….is what I heard time after time from our residents Saturday night at our “Summer Dreamin’” supper & entertainment hour.
The velvety voice of Tim Patrick sent everyone into a different time; a time of ballroom dancing with their “sweetheart” on Saturday night; a time when love was in the air.
Tim Patrick‘s voice rivals that of Frank Sinatra or Andy Williams & everyone truly enjoyed the evening performance. With lemonade & lemonade cocktails served there was definitely some “Summer Dreamin” goin’ on!
It’s times like this as the activities coordinator for Twin Rivers, that I feel truly blessed to bring moments like this to our residents.
Jackets dug out of closets, gloves & scarves too, it was a chilly Minnesota morning to head out to the Whistling Well Apple Farm owned by Charlie Johnson, who just published his book about the farm & his Springer Spaniel dog, “Emmy”. Although the wind was blowing, our hearty residents were not daunted by the weather & had a great time looking at the pumpkins, apples , mums & goodies the farm had to offer in their store. “Midnight”, the cat, stole a few hearts away, loving attention & falling fast asleep in anyone’s lap that would let him curl up for awhile! One of the ladies wanted to “accidently” put him in her purse to take home! With his warm hospitality, Charlie brought chairs up for everyone to sit down & have a cup of fresh, hot apple cider. It seems like the cool fall air makes apples taste even better! Delicious!! We boarded the van with bags of apples, pumpkins, stuffed Springer Spaniels , books, mums & fun fall decorations! Although “Emmy” was a bit distracted by a group of children she was bouncing through the orchards with, she did take the time to board our van & say hello before we left. We will certainly return to Whistling Well Farm!
